Remembering Stephen Mogler: An Industry Titan

Remembering Stephen Mogler – A Chapel Service at Pinegrove Memorial Park

Filming funerals is always an honour, but some services carry an even deeper significance. In August, I had the privilege of filming and photographing the chapel service for the late Stephen Mogler, a man regarded as a father figure to many in the funeral industry. Through his company, Statewide Mortuary Transfers, Stephen built strong relationships with countless funeral homes, leaving behind a legacy of respect and care.

The day itself was emotional to capture. Family, friends, colleagues, and employees gathered to farewell Stephen in a way that truly reflected his character and impact.

Stephen’s final journey began from Statewide’s base in St Marys, transported in a vintage red Ford ute with a procession of Statewide vans following behind. Upon arrival at Pinegrove Memorial Park, the employees formed a guard of honour alongside the white vans, flanking Stephen’s pallbearers. Leading the way was bagpiper Barry Gray from Pipers of Distinction, whose music created a moving atmosphere as Stephen was escorted to the chapel.

Inside, Celebrant David Reardon opened the service by warmly welcoming guests, noting that the ceremony would not be “politically correct”, perfectly fitting for Stephen’s personality.

Throughout the service, I was able to capture countless heartfelt moments: the touching messages written on Stephen’s casket, the procession into the chapel, the tributes shared by speakers, and the symbolic placing of roses on Stephen’s coffin. The family had chosen our Premium Videography Package, which included three camera coverage of the service plus additional footage before and after. This allowed me to create a detailed record of the day from multiple perspectives.

David closed the service with a simple but powerful message: “Share your laughs, share your memories… that’s what he’d want.”

Thank you to Scott Gleeson from Scott Gleeson Funerals for conducting. Also to Jim & Janet from Nepean Valley Funerals (Jim called me to share the sad news of Stephen’s passing), Vanessa and Josh from Jeffrey Bros Funeral Services, and most importantly, to Donna, Kelly, and the family for allowing me to capture such meaningful moments from the day.

I have just viewed, and so beautifully filmed. This is so special to have, not only for us but for a great many family members unable to attend, from Europe and Ireland. I was impressed by your complete professionalism and caring nature.
