A Celebration of Life at Watsons Bay: Odette’s Story

I was first introduced to Odette through Richard from Walter Carter Funerals. Odette had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and in her final months she thoughtfully planned how she wanted her family and friends to celebrate her life.

As part of the preparations, I worked with Odette to create a funeral tribute video that was played during her church service, along with a longer version featuring over 450 photos of her life and loved ones. These visual memories became a way for family and friends to reflect, laugh, and cry together.

Odette chose the beautiful St Peter’s Church in Watsons Bay for her service. The church seats only 60 people, so to ensure that no one missed a moment, we set up a TV outside and provided funeral live streaming for those who couldn’t fit inside.

As per her wishes, Odette came in a horse-drawn carriage, and to conclude the service, her family released doves in her honour. Having worked with her personally in the lead-up, it was one of the most emotional and moving services I was privileged to attend. Richard and the team at Walter Carter Funerals Sydney did a remarkable job in supporting the family and bringing Odette’s vision to life.

The wake at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel was every bit the celebration Odette had wished for. Guests shared cocktails and oysters, enjoyed drag performances, and gathered around to watch her photo tribute displayed on the venue’s TVs. It was a true celebration of life; uplifting, emotional, and filled with love.

Odette’s day was a reminder of how powerful funeral videography can be in bringing people together to honour a life well lived.

What a day. What a life.

I have just viewed, and so beautifully filmed. This is so special to have, not only for us but for a great many family members unable to attend, from Europe and Ireland. I was impressed by your complete professionalism and caring nature.
