How To Make a Tribute Video

Do it yourself at home

For families who want to make their own photo tribute video at home, here are some things you will need
  • Computer
  • Photo scanner or digital photos
  • Editing software
  • Basic understanding of editing digital content
  • DVD burner
Start by speaking to family and friends about your loved one’s life, stories and photo albums.

Collecting photos and video footage

Create a project file on your computer. Collect photos and any home video footage you wish to use for the tribute video and import to your project file. Original photos can be scanned (digitised) and added to your project.

Choosing music

Music helps to capture atmosphere.  Find out some of your loved one’s favorite songs, or a song that reminds you of them, and add it to your project file.

For use in home videos a Domestic Music License is required which can be purchased through APRA/AMCOS.

Screening the Tribute Video: Choosing a format

When you have finished editing your tribute video, chose an output (or outputs) that suits your needs for screening the tribute video.

Always check the resources at your location (funeral home, chapel, crematorium or other location).  Most service providers have audio/visual equipment available for screening tributes. The most common format accepted is DVD. Other locations accept MP4 or AVI files that can be played through their computer system.

Problems with chapel, funeral home or crematorium equipment is rare, however testing your DVD or file at your location before the service is advised to give you piece of mind, knowing that it will work on the day.
